Tickets available

We are excited to present the wonderful Fidelio Trio as they perform a suite of newly commissioned music in a unique collaboration featuring uilleann piper Cillian Vallely (of Lúnasa renown).

Shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Awards, Fidelio Trio are described as “Virtuosic” (Sunday Times) and perform the widest range of repertoire on concert stages across the world, winning new fans wherever they perform. With roots in Irish traditional music these boundary-busting new works are vivid musical evocations inspired by portraits of traditional musicians by iconic artist John B. Vallely. Celebrated Irish composers who have specially created new music for this project include Linda Buckley, Niall Vallely and Rose Connolly (commissioned by Moving On Music) and Shaun Davey, Neil Martin and Irene Buckley. The programme also features leading Irish contemporary composer David Fennessy’s ‘The blue-eyed lassie’ from his recent Fidelio Trio commission and two works by the late Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin specially dedicated to the trio; (must be more) Crispy! and Fidelio Unsung. The concert bookends with a special arrangement of the Blasket Islands’ slow air, Port na bPúcaí’ for this ensemble.

“absolutely wonderful...stylish virtuosity...instinctive brilliance...they get it just right” BBC Radio 3 “The sound of this trio is irresistible” The Herald

Each piece of music has been directly inspired by one of J B Vallely's artworks and will be accompanied by visuals of the work.

A loan exhibition of a number of paintings by J B Vallely will be exhibited at the Ardhowen Theatre from Wednesday 9th until Monday 28th November 2022.
