About

Fermanagh born musicians, Andrew Irwin, tenor and Gareth Knox, pianist, will join forces to present an evening of art song in the classical genre including Vaughan Williams, Beethoven and Faure.
An artist of immense versatility, Andrew Irwin- who studied at Chetham’s School of Music, the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and finally at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Leipzig- is primarily based in Germany and has appeared as a soloist in over 30 staged works, including opera, operetta and musicals. Closer to home, he has worked for Welsh National Opera, Scottish Opera, Longborough Festival Opera, Northern Ireland Opera and Ulster Touring Opera. His recent concert work has included his debut as Evangelist in Bach’s “St. John’s Passion” on the opening day of BachFest in Leipzig in summer 2024, as well as his Cadogan Hall debut as Uriel in Haydn’s “Creation Mass” in 2025.
A proud Fermanagh man, Andrew released his first disc, named “Lough Erne’s Shore” with pianist Ruth McGinley in 2021. Indeed, Andrew has created some very special moments in Fermanagh, and regularly concedes that it is extra special to sing the music he loves “at home”. He last performed for Music in Fermanagh in 2018 but his most recent performance with Gareth was for FLive Arts Festival, a truly memorable evening including operatic arias, as well as Gilbert and Sullivan and Irish songs. Adding another string to his bow, Andrew recently started a collaboration with jazz pianist Joe Hill, and has begun performing annual summer concerts at Saddler’s Bistro in Enniskillen, including songs by Sinatra, Nat King Cole and other well-known jazz standards.
Gareth first made his mark as a talented pianist at a local level at Fermanagh Feis, Portadown music festival and as winner of Enniskillen Young Musician of the Year and later Dublin Feis Ceoil after which he went on to study in both Dublin at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and the then the Royal College of Music London where he graduated with BMus (Hons) in 2001.
Since then, he has performed in ensembles, as a soloist and as an accompanist in various venues in London and Paris notably at the London Handel Festival in St George’s, Hanover Square, and on tour at La Madeleine in Paris and the Cathedrals in Chartres and Verona. Recently he has returned home after 25 years of experience as recitalist, chamber musician and accompanist and is now working as a piano teacher, freelance musician, and church organist. He is currently accompanist to Fermanagh Choral Society, and EA Music, plays organ in local churches for Darling Street Methodist and St. Michael’s Church, Enniskillen.
Music in Fermanagh is looking forward to presenting Andrew and Gareth in what will be a superb evening of quality music making.
